I am a GCSE student trying to find a perfect model for a rounders bowler. I have done some searches but cannot find anything. I hope you can help me with my PE work, as I need it for my analysis of performance.
Thank you for your help

Posted 1st October, 2003 Just found your web site and thought that it looks pretty good. I'm currently following a BTEC National Sports Science course. Could you please give me some help and direct me to the correct place where I can obtain my information. The information I require is a model pass in rugby. This is a spin pass, which starts with the ball on the floor and goes to a team-mate. The another piece of information, which I require, is a model throw, as used in cricket. These would be most helpful if you could help me with finding this. Many thanks.

Q. I just wondered if you could answer this question for me please:

We are all born with the ability to play sport. Some have more 'natural ability' than others. However, we need to learn techniques in order to be able to play efficiently. Single actions are techniques - for example the set shot in basketball. Once you have learned techniques you can choose when and where to do them in a sporting situation. Making decisions and combining techniques into longer periods of play can be defined as skill. Running into space, signalling for the ball, catching it on the move, dribbling, dummying the defender and then shooting is a skilled performance. Practices need to be suitable for the ability level of the performer. Technique practices need to be isolated from other pressures (opposition etc) until the technique is learned. Skills practices must simulate the game or competition, situation.

Strategies are the game plans we make before play - they are methods of putting us in the best position to defeat our opponents. Tactics are the particular ways we put our strategies into action. They will often have to be adapted within the game to suit changing circumstances. Hope this helps

Ability is the natural aptitude that we are born with. Skill is the learned ability to link movements and techniques and to make decisions at pace.
Hope this helps

You can refer to a Rounders coaching book, such as 'Know the Game - Rounders' or go to the National Rounders association website:
www.nra-rounders.co.uk
Hope this helps

The best place to look is a coaching book such as 'Know the Game Rounders'. You should find one in the school or local library. If not try a bookshop - or ask your teacher for one from the PE department. They are bound to have some copies.
Good luck

Thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately we do not cover the perfect model for all sports in our current book. We can only wish you the best of luck in your search for information. If you cannot find a website you should go to the library, or a bookshop to get relevant books. A visit to the RFU website, or the ECB will lead you to coaching manuals which will have the
information that you need.
Good luck!

Ability is something that we are born with. You might have good balance, natural speed and a fair amount of co-ordination. This may have been noticeable at infant and junior school. However, this doesn't mean that you will be a skilful footballer. You have to learn techniques, practise them in many situations and at increasing speeds before you become a player with
'skill'. If you have never seen a football you will not be able to play the game straightaway. Get it? Good. Hope this helps
