Q.
What is meant by the term R.I.C.E. when treating an injury?
7th October 2002
Hi
RICE is an easy way to remember how to treat a soft tissue
injury, such as a bruise, strain or sprain, in order to prevent
it getting worse and to reduce recovery time from the injury:
R
stands for REST - don't keep playing
I stands for ICE - put an
ice pack on the site of the injury to reduce blood flow (for
10 mins) and ease the pain
C stands for COMPRESSION
- strap it with a bandage or cloth to minimise swelling and
reduce pain
E stands for ELEVATION -
place the injury higher than you heart to reduce blood flow
and reduce throbbing.
Hope this helps.
